Let’s be real — dating with drinks is getting old. More people are ditching the booze and choosing real connection instead. Whether you’re fully sober, just curious, or in recovery, finding people who get you shouldn’t be hard. That’s why we’ve built Sober Attraction — a fresh new dating app created in Canada for the sober dating community. Preregistration is open now at soberattraction.com — and while we gear up to launch this summer, we’ve got something for you in the meantime. Every Thursday morning, we’ll drop a fresh blog with the best of Toronto’s sober scene: cool events, real stories, feel-good challenges, and more.

Spotlight: How The Coffee Party and Sunrise Raves Are Changing Toronto’s Sober Scene
If you think social life in Toronto has to revolve around alcohol, think again. Right here in the city, a Canadian-born idea is proving that fun, connection, and culture thrive just as well — if not better — without the buzz. Enter The Coffee Party, a proudly local event series created by a group of Toronto guys who wanted to flip nightlife upside down.
Instead of beer and cocktails, you get espresso martinis (without the booze), cappuccinos, and latte art that could be in a gallery. Instead of sticky floors and shouting over bad speakers, you get live music, vibrant conversation, and venues that range from tennis courts to rooftop patios. Every Coffee Party feels like a pop-up community — the hosts know the regulars, newcomers are welcomed without judgment, and you actually remember the people you meet. It’s social, stylish, and uniquely Canadian.
This shift in Toronto’s social DNA isn’t happening in isolation. Alongside The Coffee Party, another alcohol-free powerhouse is making waves: Daybreaker, the international dance and wellness collective that’s built a global following by replacing late-night clubbing with early-morning joy. Their Sunrise CN Tower Sober Rave this week will see hundreds gather before work to dance, do yoga, and watch the sun spill light over the city from one of its most iconic landmarks.
Both events are part of a growing cultural movement that’s about more than just “not drinking.” They’re designed with intention — spaces where connection is real, music is uplifting, and you leave feeling better than when you arrived. For sober singles in Toronto, this is a game-changer. You can meet people in environments that aren’t fuelled by alcohol but by shared experience, mutual respect, and authentic energy.
The Coffee Party and Daybreaker prove that sober culture in Toronto isn’t niche — it’s vibrant, creative, and here to stay. Whether you’re sipping a flat white while chatting under string lights or losing yourself in a sunrise dance at the CN Tower, one thing is clear: the future of fun in this city doesn’t need a drink in hand.
3. Weekly Challenge
Challenge: Host a “Board Game + Botanical Coffee Date”
How to do it:
Pick a café with board games or bring your own, grab non-alcoholic drinks, and invite someone (or go solo and meet someone new) for casual play.
Why it matters:
Game play fosters natural conversation and ease—science shows casual games boost oxytocin and connection.
Pro tip: Tag your session with #SoberAttractionGameDate on Instagram.

4. Café of the Week
Dineen Coffee Co. – Yonge Street
-
Address: 140 Yonge St, Toronto, ON M5C 1X6
-
Website: dineencoffee.com
-
What to Order: Vanilla latte with oat milk, their signature maple latte, or a warm croissant.
-
Vibe: Dineen Coffee Co. is one of Toronto’s most stunning cafés, with high ceilings, ornate tile floors, and a timeless atmosphere that feels both upscale and relaxed. Located in the Financial District, it’s perfect for a midweek morning date or an afternoon meet-up before heading to an event.
-
Why it’s great for sober singles: The atmosphere naturally encourages conversation — quiet enough to hear each other, lively enough to keep energy up. You’re surrounded by beautiful design, natural light, and a menu that makes coffee feel like an occasion.
-
Pro Tip: Go early in the morning to avoid the office crowd, or grab a weekend seat by the big windows for prime people-watching on Yonge Street.
5. Sobriety Comes with a Story
“I’m Carly, 41, divorced, sober for just over three years — and I’m starting over.”
Three years ago, my life looked very different. I was in the middle of a divorce after a long marriage that had slowly fallen apart. I was drinking more than I wanted to admit — wine to relax after work, wine to celebrate, wine to numb the loneliness I didn’t want to talk about.
One night, my youngest daughter asked me why I always had a glass of “mommy juice” in my hand. That was the beginning of when I realized that I was showing them a version of me I didn’t want them to see. That was the night I admitted to myself that I had a drinking problem.
The road to recovery wasn’t easy. I went through counselling and meetings, and months of learning how to handle life without wine. I had to say no to parties, weddings, and work events because I wasn’t ready to be around alcohol. I had to relearn how to fill my time — Friday nights, weekends, even quiet evenings at home felt strange at first, but I felt better and I saw my kids did too.
Now, at 41, I’m in a place I never imagined I’d be: happy, healthy, and excited about what’s next. Dating again has been a bit of a bumpy ride, partly because I’m 41 and partly because I’m sober. I’ve tried traditional dating apps, but telling someone “I don’t drink” still feels uncomfortable and it has lead to a couple of rejections.
That’s why being selected as one of the early testers for Sober Attraction means so much to me. I feel honoured to be part of something that’s going to change the way sober singles meet in Toronto. Yes starting over isn’t easy, but I’ve found a good starting place here at Sober Attraction.
